The Waiting Game
"I'm just gona get some food from the cafe. Wait here for me"
"She refused consent. We have to wait till we hear from her relatives"
"Know what OAFT is? obligatory anaesthetic fuck-around time"
"The current case in the acute theatre will finish in 30min, and it'll take another 10min to clean up the OT and prepare the equipment"
"So that means we won't be starting till 2hrs later....."
".................(waiting for registrar to arrive to do ward round)........................."
"......................(waiting for consultant to arrive to do ward round)......................"
".................(waiting for my reg to return my page)............................."
"........................(waiting for reg to review my patient)..........................."
".................(neurotically checking isoft every 1 minute to see if INR results r back)..............."
Everyday we wait.
And it extends beyond hospital life, obviously.
Waiting for download to finish, waiting for the new episode of naruto, waiting (X10000) for more anime naruto to catch up to manga naruto, waiting for more episodes of greys anatomy, waiting for the the holidays to come, waiting for pay to come in, waiting for...
waiting for....
waiting....
Life is all about waiting. You put in the hardwork, you put in the effort, you do the work. You think it through, you plan it out, you execute the plan smoothly, you get insomnia dissecting your actions, you read incessantly about the topic...
And you need to wait to see the results.
Everyday I work towards goals, be it long term, short term, instantaneous, simultaneous.
Some i can feel the result immediately, some i can envision the progress and improvement.
Many i have no idea what's gona happen, some i can only hope i'm doing the right thing.
And i wait.
"You guys make it seem so easy! How the hell am i supposed to remember and know all this?!"
"Oh just wait till you get the job. It'll just fall into place"
Ya, and what about all the work in between.
And not to mention the long wait.
Oh, and sometimes, what you wait for, doesn't necessary happen.
Nevertheless, anticipation.
Keeps us going
I've never noticed the close close relationship between anticipation, patience, and hope.
