Sunday

Had lunch with Mike today, it was fun watching him eat. ^^"
But it was a nice morning anyways, the weather was good - feeling of summer. People were sitting ard in albert park, soaking in the sun, having lunch. Nice...
Much better than the place i get to hang out in clendon, i mean, there's this empty mall with no one in it, and we had lunch in there?! since when have i ever brought my own lunch, and sat in the middle of a mall and eat? VEry very random.

Oh continuing from the prev post, one of the big big reasons i'm scared about trying for surgery is that the NZ system is different to the US system - i.e. pure hardwork might not get you anywhere:
1. NZ has a much longer training system than US
2. NZ has a training scheme in which, after being accepted onto the basic training scheme, you have 4 years to train and get accepted into an advanced training scheme. There is no tests etc for you to get accepted - i think its based on interviews and references and reseach etc - i.e. its based on WHO YOU KNOW. And you know what happens if you don't get accepted onto a training scheme in 4 years? You get kicked out. For example in Orthopaedics, it has been known that some people are just told "we don't think can get anywhere in orthopaedics so go try other specialties". Oh and you need 2 years min. before you can get accepted into trianing. So I mite have spent 2 years training and trying to get accepted, and then be told that they dun like me and won't accept me and i have to change specialty. So i have another 2 years to try for another surgical specialty, and retrain from scratch again. ( i mean there's no way any skill in orthopaedics can be transferred into say general surgery where you deal with the gut and other stuff). And if i don't get accepted again (and that's 4 years down the track), i'm basically kicked out of surgery. Boom. I have to start from scratch again. I won't b allowed to remain as a surgical trainee no more. Have to go do other stuff. And that means 4 years wasted. And you'll be forever known as a surgery drop-out. Other specialties probably won't accept you because you didn't choose them for you 1st choice - cos you are a surgery dropout. So this is not like in america, where if you fail, you try again, and again.
And say for orthopaedics, there's like 20 people going for the job of like 5 people. Very low admission rates onto the advanced training scheme. Hell, the pass rate is 50% for basic training scheme anyway.

Anyways i'm stil figuring out if i really like surgery or not. When i'm in it i hate it but once i finish it i love it. I'm just confused......

But i know that i hate general surgery and if anything i think i like ortho.
No interest in neuro so far (phew, that's even more competitive) ...and cardiothoracic...well - that's kinda like even harder...and their lifestyle is crappy...

I took a nap while mum mowed the lawn today. guiltguiltguiltguilt....

And gym sucked today. my fitness level is falling.
